It's the season for Seniors. I remember my fun senior pics... ok, so they weren't so fun. I would have loved to have done something fun outside while hanging out with the areas most fun photographer. Really, had lots of fun taking A's senior pictures and honored that she wanted me to take them.

Thisis my little niece all grown up and heading into her senior year. I still remember all of those sleep overs and her dream to open her own salon named "Roses and Pearls". What can I say... even then she was quite a business woman and actually charged us!

The $400 package price will save you $100 off the price you would pay for 5 individual sessions. The package includes the session time, all of the hi resolution images and $250 in photo credits. At the end of the first year, you will also receive a beautiful gift to cherish.

The details... the package fee must be paid in full up front. If you have received a gift certificate as a baby gift, I will be happy to credit that towards the Pea Pod Club. Sessiones will be scheduled on or about the ages noted above. I cannot guarantee availability on the actual month "birthday".

I just love this family. The kids are amazing and so sweet and cooperative. (mom claims this is not always the case) I could photograph them all day. The last time I was lucky enough to work with them, there were only 3. (I say ONLY) The arrival of little A brought the number to 4. A beautiful family of 6.

Bunnies, Rocks and Smiles

We had lots of entertainment this day. Baby bunnies were hiding in the bushes and the kids found it was fun to throw rocks through the gaps in the blue grey gate that I just love. It made them happy and gave some great opportunities, so as often happens in a photo session, we encouraged them to do what at home we would be telling them to cut out. It's all about getting the shot. :o)

I have been lucky enough to photograph this little beauty 6 times. Well, technically 7 since the first shoot of this session, her one year pictures, got lost. I almost had a melt down when I saw they were gone. I will say, having seen both myself, the reshoot actually topped the original. It was meant to be.

These cousins were having a get together. The family of the girls had just moved from Japan on their way to Canada. While they were here, the parents wanted to get some pictures of them together. They were so easy to work with and so serious until I told them they could start jumping and having some fun.

Marbles and Snails

So, admit, we all need them. The bribe for this session was a container of beautiful marbles and they were right on the ball with what would keep the kids happy. To top it off, the marbles were beautiful and deserved to be photographed themselves. When we were done, it was obvious the rain the night before had brought our all of the little snail on the path. Some had their shells but others were homeless little snails. That sure didn't stop little A from picking them up... love her pretty little dress, snail in hand.

Girls Day Out

This little one is the niece and granddaughter of these two. Her aunt wanted to do some pictures for her mother so we got some of C with her grandma (I love those) and with her aunt and all by herself. She was like a little model just looking at the camera and smiling.

Rain, rain go away... for once it worked! We had to change our location because it was raining, raining, raining. We decided to go to this location since they had lots of covered porches we could use with nice landscaping in the background. While we were doing the family shots, the skies cleared and the kids could go out and run around.

This family session included a family of 4 including a new baby. What made it more special was that the dad's parents were here from Croatia to visit their grandsons. The session was a lot of fun once they figured out the glitch of one set of keys locked in the car by one little one. :o)

N is another one of the one year olds. We did his pics at his house and what a difference from last time. He pretty much stayed where we put him last time. He pretty much did the opposite this time but we still kept up and got some cute shots.

Of course, we had a nice stretch of warmer weather and spring was in bloom... except this day. E was a good sport running (carefully so she didn't fall and get grass stains on her dress) from the house to the outside to get some pretty shots. She just makes taking photos too easy!

This would have to be the blue eyed family! They all have these beautiful blue eyes so the soft blue walls were the perfect accent. Big brother was a moving target much like my own so we let him run off some energy between shots so he could be the helpful big brother in between.

btw... when I worked for a photographer, he would NEVER have shown an image with drool... the way I see it, they drool and he was pretty good at it. Ha!

I have been doing monthly sessions for M. In all that time, P comes and plays with my little J but never wants to have her picture taken. Well, that all changed when she saw her little sister sitting in a Burbon box. She decided she needed to give that a try and I managed to sneak in a picture of her as well. Gotcha P!

A is such a little sweetheart. I always have a soft spot for the little sprites and she is one. She wasn't her smily self that day but she was so beautiful. I loved that mom brought along the birth beads she used the year before when A was born. It had so much meaning and the beads were so beautiful.

This was one of those sessions to capture the last few days of being a family of 3. They were fun and playful and mom was a very good sport at sitting on the floor, getting up, moving this way and that. Since then, they have now welcomed a second baby boy to the family. Congratulations to all!

Like I said about the previous session... I can't believe our babies are 2. Since the last post cas C, only makes sense that J is next.

One last pic... We were having a problem with J. Seems when her sister started school, she got very stressed out. She started pulling her hair and finally managed to pull off about 1/2 of it. I didn't want to showcase this, but did want one pic that showed what she was up to at that point in her life. Here is my little half baldie... and yes, it is browing back!

I photographed this little girl alone a couple of months before these. Like my oldest, photographing her is like taking pictures of a jumping cricket! Bring in the big brother and she just was so calmed. It was so cute how sweet he was with her and how she really calmed right down with her big brother there.

Pricing changes

As you may have noticed, I have made a change in my pricing. I wanted to give a brief explination of why...

When I started this, I really was looking at what was reasonable pricing and what I could offer that others don't. I provide a CD and release of all images at a very reasonable price. Well, as time has gone on, I have found little expenses I hadn't thought of. The cost of postage, CDs, Cd cases and mailing envelopes are all things that I have never factored into my costs.

I have changed the sitting fee, but in that price you will get $50 in high quality, archival portraits of your choice. You can choose one larger portrait or a variety of small ones. You can choose one image, or from 10 different images. It is not a package, just a portraiture allowance. I did this to help cover my cost but also to have a little more input on how my work of your child or family is presented. When I just turn over the images, my reputation goes with that. While I will still be giving you the CD and all rights to use it, I want to be able to know that some of those images are presented in the high quality prints that I feel best show off your portraits.

I hope you can understand my changes and I can guarantee you, you will be so happy with your portraits when they are finished in such a prefessional manner.

This family was so easy to work with. We did some family shots before dad had to head off to work. Then it was the boys. They were so cute and curious playing in the woods. Then to add to the fun some nice huge dog came running across the creek and brought our session to a pretty quick end. They were so cute I didn't need any more time anyway. Sweet boys!

Yep, that would be five little kids. Of course, I thought it was going to be six so five seems like a cake walk. Actually the kids were really good. I was actually surprised after the fact that we got as many good images as we did. It was a fun shoot but I think all of the parents and myself were all worn out. Not the kids... they were ready to head to the playscape at McDonalds when we were done. Those poor parents.

Well, I have had some sessions end abruptly. In most cases, it's because a child was just done and got crabby to that point we all know... the point where they are not going to let me take any shots. Well, in this case, all was going well. It was a nice cool day and C and C were dressed so cute and having fun.

Little C was having a bit too much fun. We heard him fall and looked to see his arm in a pile of leaves. As he lifted up his arm, we saw that beneath those leave lied a nice, deep and extra muddy mud puddle.

Well, I didn't expect to have to be saying this so early on. Between my 2 girls, my part time job, my mom's club board position and activities and starting a business, I am running out of time for the holidays. Since my session fee includes retouched images, the majority of my time is spent after the session on retouching and that takes a pretty fair amount of time. Because of that, I just can't guarantee images in time for the holidays on sessions booked after this point in time. I wish I could, but I just don't feel I can guarantee the quality I want to give in the shortened time frame.

If you are interested, I now do have Gift Certificates available if you want them for someone else, or you want to suggest them to someone to buy for you.

This is the little guy of another one of my fellow Mom's Club members. He was so sweet but just refused to give me one of his big smiles.
He was so adorable that we didn't even need to see the smiles.

A's mom is another mom that I have the sad past of pregnancy losses in common with. Of course, now we both have the shared joy of having our perfect babies. I commented on her beautiful bracelet that she was wearing and it turns out she has taken her talent and her losses and now makes beautiful tribute jewelry.

This was a session that was a donation to our church youth group auction to benefit the yout trip for the Appalachia Service Project. The grandma of these cuties had the winning bid and I had the fun of taking their portraits. A reminded me so much of my older one. She was on the go while J was just taking it all in. Don't worry J, you will be running with her in no time.

That was the worry when these sisters read my blog. I like to let little kids just be little kids and capture that. I think they were afraid I'd make them play Ring Around the Rosey or something. I have known them since they were newborns, so in my mind they are still little enough for that but as you can see, they are all grown up and beautiful.

We celebrated C's birthday on vacation in Traverse City. I have always loved the buildings that used to house the old State Hospital.

The whole campus is now being renovated and it's so great to see them come to life with offices, condominiums, store fronts and restaurants. I decided that would be where we would do C's 5 year old pictures.

If you ever get a chance to visit the Grand Traverse Commons, I really recommend looking closely at the beautiful buildings and the details that made them worth saving.

A little miracle

This little sweetheart holds a special place for me. Her grandma and my mom are good friends. Through them, I was connected with her mom when they were going through what we had also been through in the journey to have a family. You can see how beautiful she is, but like her family, I know that her beauty is only a small part of the perfection and blessing that she is to the world. She is an amazing little miracle.

Unfortunately the only time they could all do it was in the minutes before my daughters 5th birthday party. It was quick, but they ended up with some nice images showing their personalities.

I have always loved the old_winery/powerhouse in Farmington. The architecture is beautiful. I drive by there often and always thought, I have to take the girls up there one day so I finally did. It was really for J's 18 month pictures but I decided to include both of them.

I loved seeing how much the little girls loved playing their violins and how much they respected them. Then it was just having some fun outside. Of course, they are relatives but that does not make me partial to them... they are just the nicest family. The dad is my cousin and he has a great family. I really consider his wife to be a cousin (my twin) and their son is just the coolest kid. They came into town for J's baptism and were headed back to North Carolina. I wanted to take a quick family picture of them so we headed out into the back yard. Their clothes were perfect and I just loved the outcome. Quickest session ever but when you have good subjects, it doesn't take long to get the great shot.

I got to photograph sweet little C for her adoption announcements. It is amazing to me to see a child come from such a different life and just fit right in and so quickly become part of a family. To see her kissing her mom, or rolling on the floor with her brother, it was like she had been with them her whole life.

Miss M in the park

We did this shoot on September 11th and upon arriving at the park, we found a beautiful memorial display. On a hill, a ring of flags encircled the amphitheatre. Each flag bore the picture, name and age of a soldier from our area who was killed in action. It was beautul, and yet, obviously so sad. We did do a couple of pictures there that turned out very sweet, but we still needed to respect the memorial for what it was.

M loved the netting and thought it was fun to run with it. It made for a very pretty look. Finally it was time for some fun in her jumper. A basket of apples was a big hit and I think she took a bite out of each one before our time was done.

A friend asked me to do pictures of her, her mother and her daughter. I knew they were beautiful physically, but seeing them interacting... the daughter to daughter to daughter relationship was so playful and you could just tell that each generation so respects the next.

Architecture is a flat rate of $75 per hour. This will include travel costs and retouching as needed. You will receive up to 10 hi resolution images on CD. If you would like printed pieces, prices will be the same as portrait photography prints.

Portrait Photography
Your session will last anywhere up to 1 hour. Feel free to bring a change of clothing and any simple props that are personal to you.

Sessions can be done indoors, but I prefer to use the outdoors as a background if at all possible. We have a beautiful yard and a few other outdoor areas nearby that you will see in these sessions shown.

For clothing, remember that the simpler the better. You want the focus of your portraits to be your family not the clothing. Avoid patterns as much as possible. If there is more the one person in your portraits, you will want the clothing to go together. That doesn't mean they need to match, but they need to go together. Try and keep in the same tonal range. A person in a light color and another in a dark color will detract from the people and draw your eye to the clothing contrast. I do have some little girl clothes that you are welcome to use. My style is to let kids be kids and capture their real personality. I like to give them a little guidance, but let them be themselves. The straight forward, posed smile picture is not the style I tend to work in. I find this works best when a parent kind of steps back and lets me just work one on one with your child and give the direction. I can use help wrangling the little ones, but have found I can get more looking at the camera and coming out of their shells if I just take the time and wait for them to shine.

Regular Session Fees
Your $100 session fee includes your session and $50 worth of finished portraits of your choice and a CD with hi resolution, retouched images. (up to 30) Images on CD will be ready about 3 weeks after your session. Additional CD's are available for $8 each. If you choose to have me do your entire portrait order, I will individually crop the images to make the most of the image within the constraints of each image size. All images 5x7 and larger will be mounted on professional mat board for lasting stability and will be true photographs, not just a color digital output. Wallets will have professional, rounded corners.

Senior Session Fees
Senior session fees are $200. Why the difference? A senior session is much more time consuming in many ways. They involve multiple locations and can run 2 hours or longer. In addition, there are usually more images and your session includes not only the hi resolution CD but also a ring bound proof book so you can share your senior pictures with your friends and family.

All session fees are for a session at my home or at area parks and locations. (within a 10 mile radius). Sessions beyond that point, add $30. Anything more then 10 miles from my home will be quoted at the time of booking.

Setting up an indoor session requires putting up and steaming a background, lights, etc. An outdoor session requires packing up my car and for both, I need to clean my camera, recharge and replace batteries and make arrangements for my kids. Because of my time investment, your session fee is due at the time of booking to commit you to that time as well as me to my time. If you need to cancel due to weather or illness, your session will be rescheduled. If an agreeable date cannot be reached, your fee will be refunded. Failure to keep your appointment without at least 12 hours notice will forfeit your session fee.

$400 for 5 sessions (maternity or newborn, 3, 6, 9 and 12 month sessions) and a beautiful keepsake gift.

Sweet Peas started as a hobby of mine. I spent many years working as a graphic designer. When we had our second baby, it didn't make sense for me to go back to the 40 hour week and for that matter, I didn't want to. I wanted to be home to do school events and playdates with my kids. I work part time as a cashier at Busch's grocery store to get myself out of the house a few hours and to occasionally get out with grown ups.

I needed to come up with a name for my new business so started trying to think of something that had some meaning to me. My husband would often call me "P". When our oldest, was born, she was nicknamed Peanut. When number 2 came along, she was nicknamed Pumpkin. All those "P" names just had to mean something. Since my girls both have "P" nicknames and they are, for the most part, sweet, it just made sense.
